Week 33: Aug 13-19

Aug 19
In Salmon Arm for a big weekend of partying. This is Travis past out with his guitar at 2 pm (yes pm) from too much scotch in the morning. Kara is in the background looking at art by Ashley Wood.

Aug 18
Fictional Hottie

Aug 17
Some elements for my sleepwalker painting

Udated version of earlier sketch. Put in wings using photoshop.

This one ended up like me, oddly enough.

Week 31: July 30-August 5

August 5
On a boat with some friends this weekend. That's our captain Mr. Sam Lawson, and that's our resident sun bather Lia. I consider drawing from life always the highest valued form of sketching, no matter how it ends up looking. I wish it did look better!

August 4
Sometimes I'll be in a bathroom stall or some other place where I'm forced to look at these varied, abstract patterns and my artist's mind immediately springs into action. Similar to when people see things in clouds, I see things in all sorts of random patterns (I actually mean random, that word is so overused it has almost lost its meaning). This drawing started as a stain from the opposite side of the page, all I could see was a robot. So, quickly I sketched it as an outline, threw it into photoshop, added some depth and colour and presto! A decent looking sketch of a not-so-original style of robot (see Return of the jedi, or Robocop, or Metal Gear from the original Nintendo!)

August 3
Very similar process to the above, but this time the staining was intentionally blocked in. Gotta love photoshop for the added touches, depth and the ability to make his eyes glow like that. For the shine on his head and shoulder I used a cool brush I found online somewhere (can't remember where).

August 2
Angels wear knee-high boots. I hope.

August 1
Lia chillin' with a strange robot.

July 31
Not the worst position to be in, although she doesn't look too happy.

July 30
Technically not from today, but I finally got some decent light in the morning with a working camera to take a nice pic of this. You may remember a sketch of this from before...
This one is most definitely for sale. Acrylic on Wood (formerly a bedside table top).

Week 30: July 23-29

July 29
Playing lots with perspective, composition and form.

July 28
Same here. Looking at lots of Ashley Wood from Perth Australia. He's terribly good at composing interesting - yet deceptively complex - figures. He makes it look so haphazard and rushed, but when you look at a thigh or a hand, you're just amazed by how right he is. I was just in Perth, I should have visited him and another of my favourite artists, Shaun Tan. Darn.

July 27
Tortoise study.

July 26
I saw this hanging out of a dumpster off cordova, had to draw it. Hope that garbage strike ends soon...

July 25
Soltron lives...off apple slices apparently.

July 24
doodle

July 23
Did this one in Salmon Arm as well. A giant lumbering through a rainforest with those wool socks you get a mark's work warehouse. Something about the soft edges is very whimsical. The trees in the foreground could be more pronounced.
