Yet another Davy inspiration. This is from a while ago I completely forgot about it. It was kind of a myspace thing and I haven't bothered with facebook. Facebook sure killed myspace. Anyhoo, Davy wrote me a message with just "Cannonball Run 2007". All I could think about was Burt Reynold's stupid face and moustache. I guess what I was thinking is that the 2007 version would be alot like that Aphex Twin video where everyone's face is Richard D. James'. Except with moustaches.

Creepy/Evil Homer Simpson and Mr. Burns. I didn't notice the likeness until I finished drawing. It was a bit of a weird coincidence that BOTH characters were from the Simpsons. I never even watch that show anymore, and oh great here comes the movie. Great timing Matt.

Word. For the last (and next) few days I've been working with eraseable blue pencil which, purposefully doesn't scan well. I've been adjusting the heck out of them to make them visible...Anyways, I'm happy with some of the faces of come up with lately check it out...

I was really blown away by the Triplets of Belleville. There's a scene where the characters first arrive in Belleville and its some sort of overblown combination of Paris, New York and Montreal.
All the people from Belleville are these massive fat American fast food types that look so grotesque and yet so believable at the same time. Why can't there be more animation like this?

This may be my best entry yet. There were a couple phases to this. My friend Travis had just finished a painting of himself for his mother (it was holy shit amazing) and had done his colour tests on a scrap piece of paper. I sketched this clown on that paper using some of the shapes he had created. Then I brought the sketch into photoshop and gave it some extra depth, colour, and texture.

You may remember an earlier sketch of this girl. This is my evolution of that idea. I think this is a great way to work, find the inspiration, imitate it as an idea, then build it into your own idea and your own observations. I think its important that it becomes my own and I think it has.
